RK JOINERY COMPLETE FULL RENOVATION OF MARMALADE HOTEL

RK Joinery and Building are delighted to announce the completion of another project, the complete renovation of the Marmalade Hotel in Portree. On the back of the success of the renovation of the Bosville Hotel (also owned by Perle Hotels) RK Joinery and Building managing director Robert MacQueen met with director of operations Angela Findlay about the possibility of renovating the Bosville's sister hotel The Marmalade.

The company had quite a tight deadline with renovation work commencing in December 2016 due for completion March 2017. The existing hotel was stripped back to the walls as part of phase one of the renovation before the next stages of the renovation took place. The main hotel was reconfigured to create an extra room and also the existing cellar storage area was converted in to two new accessible rooms with built in en suites. You can see the transformation in the photos below.

As you can see from the images above the hotel is targeting a high standard market with all furnishings and fittings carefully selected to convey a quality and consistent visual. Burnt oak flooring was installed, a bespoke new bar created with a stunning wooden map of the Isle of Skye added to the seating area for guests. The bespoke new bar was built on site by our joiners along with other bespoke items of furniture including a reception desk, Banquette seating and a waiter station.

Below you can see images of the renovation work carried out to the hotel entrance which links the bar/reception to the main restaurant.

Working closely with the interior designer the style of the furnishings was consistently carried through to the hotel restaurant featuring the new beautiful oak flooring and colour scheme. A wood burning stove was also installed to act as a centre piece in the room. Bespoke banquette seating was also installed. We also sourced period finishings for the public areas to be more in keeping the style/age of the hotel. You can view the before/after images of the restaurant below.

The upper floors of the hotel contain numerous en suite rooms, all of which were fully renovated to be consistent with the colour scheme chosen by the interior designer. Working closely with the project architects and the interior designer RK Joinery and Building managing director Robert MacQueen directed his team to pull together the project on time and in budget encompassing a lot of additional work including the complete painting of the outside of the building during the months of February and March. The work was a turn-key project encompassing; supply and fit of burnt oak flooring, bespoke items of furniture, Italian porcelain tiles, new doors including workshop made exterior doors, iron mongery, finishings throughout, paneled ingoes to window and door reveals, dulux diamond matte paint finish to all surfaces (in some cases sprayed on to provide a better finish), luxury wallpaper, supply and fit of wood burning stove including stone surrounds and hearth, bespoke items of artwork, build in wardrobes, supply and fit carpet throughout, forming new openings in roof, replace velux windows, roof repairs throughout, forming new dormers and fire exits, exterior slabbing and bespoke bed heads. We also supplied and fitted new en suites and a heating system and electrics throughout the hotel.

The project was completed on time and the hotel is now open for business ready for a busy 2017 season.
